We are beginning some GPU tests. Highly experimental, but not dangerous ;-) At this time it is for Windows users with CUDA GPUs. Please participate!

Hello and good morning!
Both I and my pc are trying to get work, but the looking at the log it insist it's not available for win 86/ win86/64bits!
I do have at least two cuda capable computers, they are running Gpugrid just fine!

This computer; http://boinc.umiacs.umd.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=57195 is writing this into the event log:

Looking forward to help You further into the testing!

With regard,

Ps.
Sorry did not have time to use bbcode to make the message look nicer!!

EDIT.

PPS:::
Stupid me , had forgotten to tick for GPU Work in my settings!!
It has been some time since we run Gpu tasks !!

Sorry!

PPPS::::
Still no luck in getting Gpu work ("No work to send" according to Server Status), even after resetting, the same messages in the event log.
It also seems nobody is picking up the 5 Garlis left to send..

Hi
Get same messages as Hans Sveen, even after I ticked for GPU work after reading his post :-). I'm running XP 64bit with GTX 460 GPU. Not dangerous.... ;-)

Message 4626 - Posted: 24 Nov 2010, 12:05:04 UTC - in response to Message 4625.

I got one WU 1265430 after I ticked the "GARLI-GPU" option at the user preference. However, I am puzzled while the minimum quorum is 1, the initial replication is also 1, and the max # of error/total/success tasks are respectively 20, 30, 6, I saw over hundreds of replicates, many already have status "completed and waiting for validation". I am just wondering how many of such CUDA WUs have been generated and will we be granted credit for the WUs completed?

Right, basically every Windows host with a new enough CUDA capable GPU should run one copy of each testing workunit. (64 bit hosts have been returning these WUs successfully as well.) These workunits will not have credit granted automatically; I'll have to do some kind of manual credit grant to those that complete them. This testing will probably not last more than a week or so, but we'll see. I apologize for disrupting the other regular work during this time. However, if the testing goes well, we may decide to release the GPU version for use with regular workunits -- we'll see.

GTX 460 on XP 64bit don't get any WU's, GTX 260 on XP 64bit get WU's and complete a WU in approx 4 minutes. 4xx series not supported ?

Good to see some CUDA work from this project again :) Haven't crunched here for quite a while, so this is a good excuse to come back for a bit

That's a good question... if we decide to go ahead with a release, I don't anticipate there will be any versions compiling GARLI+BEAGLE on OS X.

Is there a word missing? I hope you do consider doing a GPU app for OSX. All modern/ currently sold Macs support Open CL plus CUDA or what ever the ATI scientific compute library is. That is 100% top to bottom of all currently sold Macs can do GPU crunching. Most machines sold in the last 3 years can do so also.

Oops... replace 'versions' with 'problems'... I don't anticipate any problems... :-)

Are there any restrictions on WHAT GPUs are suitable? I have a GTS 450 and a G 105M that might help find out. Also a 6150SE, if you're able to use GPUs that BOINC doesn't recognize as BOINC-capable. You might want to start a thread for discussing what GPUs are suitable - and whether the amount of graphics memory they have is important.

why not openCL?
its supported by NVidia and AMD, so it would be a better choice, instead of kicking one group or making 2 applications ...

have a ATI HD 5870 and a AMD HD 6950 waiting for bio-crunching :)

A good choice IF the AMD/ATI OpenCL library already includes all the necessary items to interface the applications to the boards, including dealing with the fact that BOINC is not yet capable of using the OpenCL interface directly.

GPUGRID has already found that it does not yet include all the FFT items they need so that they CAN start using such cards.

Does The Lattice Project also need similar FFT items?
